Glendale Filipino Church Officers Retreat 2011: Impact Church Leaders
Burbank, CA. Fifty lay leaders and officers of Glendale Filipino Adventist Church (GFAC) gathered in Valley View Hall of Castaway Restaurant on February 6, 2011 for retooling and reequipping. Elder Dan Smith, Senior Pastor of Garden Grove SDA Church and a bosom friend Adventist Filipinos, spoke from the theme, “Discipleship Through Empowered Leadership, Passionate Spirituality and Loving Relationships.” He was invited by Elder Dem Robles, the Senior Pastor of GFAC.
The program started at 9:00 AM with praise, prayer and a short devotional. After this Elder Robles gave the assessment and result of the Natural Church Development survey, which was taken last year during the officer’s retreat in Thousand Oaks, to those who were in the hall. Elder Smith then proceeded to talk about his topic during the first session.
“God in heaven is looking for impact players” Elder Smith emphasized. He retold the story found in Daniel 1-7 briefly and succinctly gleaning lessons about leadership and obedience to the commands of God. He used illustrations from his experiences that elicited laughter and convictions that impacted the officers “to do something rather than do nothing.” “A fully devoted SDA will benefit another person’s life” was a clarion call to action quipped by Elder Smith.
